Fireworks
The Six
Nations match between France and Italy on Sunday was preceded by the customary fireworks.
The roof of the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille was closed, so the smoke was
trapped. It gradually cleared at ground level, drifting up as the game progressed.
More fireworks exploded after successful penalty kicks, resulting in more smoke.
It cannot be good to play in and is certainly
unfortunate for crowds in the upper stands.
The result was a draw - 13-13. France played with 14 men for most of the match, Danty being sent off for dangerous play. It need not have made a difference. Teams have been known to win with two men down.
It was exciting.
Usually, games would be played at the Stade France but the stadium is being prepared for the Paris Olympic games in the summer.
I can't imagine that smoke would be good for people. I do love a good firework display though. It's all about those 'oos and ahhs' as they light up the sky. It brings back lovely memories of my childhood.
ReplyDeleteOrganised fireworks from a distance I can appreciate, but leave the bangers out!
DeleteWith you on that 100%. The colour and lights are great at a distance where the bangs can't be heard.
DeleteIt certainly can't be good and sounds positively dangerous. xx
ReplyDeleteI just felt it was ill-thought.

ReplyDeleteI missed the France vs Italy match yesterday as I was out with Nobby on the monthly Aberdeeen/shire fox terrier walk.
ReplyDeleteI note that, for an England supporter living in Scotland, watching the Calcutta Cup has been doubly distressing in recent years....
Cheers, Gail.
I can imagine your pain. My eldest granddaughter is married to a Scot, so loyalties are divided in her house. Mind you, England really doesn't deserve to win - basic skills, I'm told, are lacking;-)
DeleteMy husband has not spoken about the Wales Ireland game, the only comment was at the start, 'I hope they don't lose too badly'
ReplyDeleteOh, that's such a shame. I'm sure Wales will be in the ascendant again before too long. Ireland are going to win again, I'm sure.
DeleteWhatever people think I still love to see fireworks. here in my home town there were firework displays in September and I could see them from my bedroom window. Can't remark about the Welsh rugby team, but they are still young so hopefully will improve?
ReplyDeleteOrganised fireworks from afar I can appreciate, but I hate the bangers!
ReplyDeleteI love fireworks, but I don't know that I've ever seen an indoor display. Sometimes, the moist summer air will make the smoke blanket the area and not move out quick enough. That's bad enough. I wouldn't want to deal with it inside.
ReplyDeleteI think it must have been quite unpleasant.
ReplyDeleteSorry not been following the six nations at all!
ReplyDeletePleased the match you mention was exciting though.
All the best Jan
I don't watch avidly but wanted to see how Italy fared.
DeleteThe smoke being trapped sounds quite horrible. I'm not a fan of fireworks at the best of times, I'm afraid ... xxx
ReplyDeleteThey're fine from a distance . . . x x x
