Pretty

Pretty soaps from the English Soap Company. I believe these are ‘guest soaps.’ They look nice and smell delightful but they are very awkward to use.

Guest towels are also decorative but of not much practical use. They’re good for drying fingertips and that’s about all. Perhaps I wash my hands too vigorously. I mean, I don’t require a bath towel or bath sheet (what’s the difference between those two?) but I do like to feel that there is an ample length of towelling for my requirements.

  1. The difference is size, bath sheets are quite large, similar in size to "beach towels" big enough to lie on at the shore, longer and wider than a regualr bath towel. Guest soaps are awkward to use unless they are rounded, I never buy them.

  2. The very thin, very small decorative guest "towels" that hosts often provide are frustrating, especially at a large gathering. I'm not familiar with the term "bath sheet."

  3. We don't have guest towels, just a normal posh set, which we don't use.

  4. I've never had guest soaps or towels - perhaps that's why I don't get many visitors!
My new big towels are bath sheets - wonderfully large and wrapping all round.

  5. Bath sheets are much larger. I am not keen on huge towels, nor tiny sample sized soaps. I searched online to find out what happens to the barely used soaps. Staff take them home? There is now some recycling of them, but they don't make soap. There is a funny story about someone staying in a hotel for an extended period and wanting a proper sized cake/bar of soap. I think I have a copy. I might put it on my blog.

  6. A nice, warm, fluffy towel is a treat.

  7. I think bath sheets are the largest. I love them.
When I was a lot larger than I am now, I needed sheets because nothing else would wrap round and I'm just in the habit of using them. I went through a spell of having a set of towels that matched the guest room but I've grown out of that now and they're mostly white now.
I find those mini soaps tend not to lather all that well. Maybe i've just had bad luck with them. xx

    1. I agree - they don't lather well, at all.

  8. I used to keep out the little pretty rose shaped cakes of soap for when my mother would visit. Always hope that she would just go ahead and use one, but she never did. So years after she was gone I kept them in addition in the bathroom because they were pretty. They reminded me of her anyway.

    1. You never used them, either? Little things hold sweet memories.

  9. We don't entertain much, but I gave up having guest towels long ago.

    1. I think the only time I ever had them was probably when I bought a towel bale - maybe not.

  11. We tend to have hand towels and bath sheets.
    Apparently a bath sheet typically measures 60 inches x 35 inches (150cm x 90cm) and a bath towel typically measures 54 inches x 30 inches (137cm x 75cm).

    All the best Jan

    1. I find bath sheets a bit too big. It's all a matter of personal taste, I suppose.

  12. I am a sucker for those hand made scented soaps which last for ages. They tend to be quite large though and not so attractive as those timy guest soaps
