Classic yachts
A fleet of classic yachts is currently sailing in the Solent. The photographs were taken from the television so the quality is not brilliant. These beautiful boats, clinker built, and probably over a hundred years old, look most impressive when in full sail.
Because they are wooden
craft they need a lot of maintenance. Refits are costly and sailing such a boat
requires an experienced skipper and enthusiastic crew.
They are a sight for sore eyes!
How majestic these look. I have only seen our Atlantic shore 3 times and never saw anything this big for sailing yachts. But I did see some restored older yachts and enjoyed the peaceful sight.
ReplyDeleteThey are majestic, indeed.
DeleteOh how I would love to have seen those magnificent vessels under full sail.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
We have been luck enough to sail alongside some of the Tall Ships - they are impressive.

ReplyDeleteSailing holidays in the Gulf of Morbihan?
DeleteThey are beautiful. Imagine being on the shore or a clifftop and watching them sail by.
ReplyDeleteThey are so graceful - a reminder of past glories.
DeleteThey are complicated beasts, for sure.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not for the novice.
DeleteThese are magnificent. I know nothing about sailing and have wondered what it would be like to live a life that included an intimate knowledge of boats and a feeling of ease and confidence on the water. My experience is limited to the San Francisco ferry.
ReplyDeleteI've never felt at ease or confident in a sailing boat, but it has been lovely to see graceful old craft up close.
