Cars update
We had another call this morning to say the RAC service patrol was on the way, so I pointed out that it wasn’t expected until this afternoon. The next call was to say the patrol would be at our house at 2.30, but he arrived an hour earlier in a patrol car, not a recovery vehicle. Fortunately, we’d just got back from dog duties and he did call ten minutes before arrival.
I must say, the RAC organisation is very good at keeping in touch with us and letting us know the state of play, even if they do get the details a little muddled at times. They always ask if we’re safe. Considering some vehicles break down in decidedly dangerous locations, that’s very sensible.
Anyway, the man from the RAC managed to start the car and then it got stuck in ‘park’ mode. He has managed to sort it out and now Barry will drive it to the garage with the patrol man in close attendance. If it breaks down on the one-mile journey to the garage, help will be immediately at hand!
I’m glad it’s not being towed. I hated driving behind a tow truck the one time I had to do it. I didn’t like the feeling of powerlessness and the fact that I was much closer to the back of the truck than I would normally choose to be.
I'm wishing you all the best in resolving your car issues. I'm very sympathetic. It's so destabilizing (to me) when they fail.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It is aggravating.
DeleteHi Janice - the ongoing saga - hope it's sorted in the next few hours/days! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI hope so, too. I don't really want to think about replacing it:-(
DeleteCar troubles upset me so much, I hope yours are resolved. Good to have the professionals right there.
ReplyDeleteIt is reassuring.
DeleteIf the RAC have the same policies as the AA, it is one of the few situations in life where you definitely get priority if you are an older woman out on the road on her own!
ReplyDeleteIt got to the garage without breaking down again, so now we wait and see.
ReplyDeleteOh the joys........ Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you - these things are sent to try us - and they do!
DeleteCars are a necessary evil.
ReplyDeleteToo right:-)
DeleteWe depend on our vehicles for every day life. When one is out of operation, we feel stranded and out of control. Hope all is sorted soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lynn./ We've been in this situation before and it's not a nice feeling, knowing that we can't rely on our cars.
Deletei hope your issues are resolved soon. We depend on our cars so much and sometimes we don't realize how much we do until something like this happens.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, we don't need our cars as much as we did - we just want them to work when we do need them. First World problem, really!
DeleteI've never had the experience of being towed, and from what you say don't ever want to.
ReplyDeleteIt's not something I want to repeat. I'm a 'two cars' ahead driver!
DeleteGood to have the RAC helping you.
ReplyDeleteKeeping fingers crossed that all will be well soon.
All the best Jan
The RAC has been very helpful. I almost feel as though we've got a hot line to them.
Deletethat does sound like excellent service and once again I am glad I don't have a car or even drive at all.
ReplyDeleteIndependence comes at a cost, that's for sure.
DeleteWow, how unfortunate to have both of them go at the same time! We have one car that we own, but husband has a mini van from work that he drives to and from and is allowed to use for personal use.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had some good service. We had a good experience this week. We were having trouble with a tyre (the light went on) and husband noticed a slow leak. We took it to a tyre place by appointment and they fixed it for free! So pleased.
That's good service - makes you believe in the innate goodness of people, doesn't it?
DeleteCar problems make me very anxious. Bad luck indeed to have both of yours fail at once. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenny - we live in hope more than expectation.
DeleteI hope its something simple to repair.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too . . . £££
DeleteProblems with the ride just turns the whole world upside down. I hope the repairs are easily done and not expensive
ReplyDeleteLikewise . . . :-)
DeleteWhat a saga, but I'm glad to read the RAC man was able to assist. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out! xxx
ReplyDeleteNow we wait . . . :-)
DeleteBeing towed -sometimes necessary but not a pleasant experience as you said. Helpful RAC man. Hope all goes well.
ReplyDeleteThere's an ominous silence at present . . .
