Today's Flowers #113 Seeds and berries

Sunflower head with one remaining petal!
Close-up of developing seeds
Pyracantha berries - these will be eagerly consumed by blackbirds later on
Ripening holly berries on Ilex 'Golden King'
Blackbirds and thrushes will enjoy these. Sometimes a pair of Mistle thrushes will appropriate the tree and keep all-comers at bay!

  1. The birds here have been waiting patiently to eat my mother's orchid buds, much to her aggravation. I wish these birds would confine themselves to berries and nuts, too.

I think that last one has the makings of a lovely Christmas postcard. :)

  6. I love the close-up of the developing sunflower seeds--I've never seen them close up before. Great shots of fall seeds, berries and leaves.

  8. Holly berries! When I was a toddler, I loved the two huge holly trees in front of my grandparents' house in New Westminster, BC. Someone was always having to grab me away from the prickly leaves.
