George the something or other post box
Elizabeth II post box. I think we'd have guessed this as there were no postal services in the time of Good Queen Bess.
Probably the design of the crown on George's box would tell us which George it was - but I don't know!

Very interesting and colorful. Can't miss that mailbox.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.
Wow! I did not realise that those "George" boxes were still being used in England! Amazing how the same style of box persisted for Elizabeth! Great collection of shots and thanks for joining in again! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteA royal postbox What does the R stand for?
ReplyDeleteI must have saved a fortune by not having George numbers on them. The same ones could be used for all.
ReplyDeleteThank you folks :-)
ReplyDeleteMarja - GR means George Rex, Rex being Latin for King. EIIR means Elizabeth II Regina, Regina meaning Queen.
Chris - LOL!! Never thought of that :-)
These are lovely shots, very much nostalgia for me, like a telephone box :)
ReplyDeleteWow, such interesting post boxes! Something you won't see with e mail!
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting ! I have never payed attention to that ! I only saw that the mailboxes were red, just like in Belgium !
ReplyDeleteHow very unique! Very different from the plain metal boxes I usually see!
ReplyDeleteI love these mailboxes. They have such a permanent feel to them, not something that could be pushed over by some rowdies on a Saturday night. Thanks for sharing.
