Rainbows
We don't often see rainbows, but we have seen a couple recently.
One afternoon, rain lashed while the sun attempted to counteract the dark clouds. Together, sun and rain conspired to bring forth a dramatic rainbow. The photographs were taken from the patio door into the garden and have not been edited.
A few days later, more rain fell in a dispirited, half-hearted manner. The result was a wishy-washy sky with an uninspiring bow. The clouds promised more precipitation, but did not deliver.
The first photos display a dramatic sky, the second rather foreboding.
ReplyDelete'The end is nigh' we could have said . . . but didn't.
DeleteThat is indeed dramatic and the colours are almost surreal. The one you called wishywashy is the more traditional rainbow.
ReplyDeleteOn any other day, the second day's rainbow would have been its usual gift.
DeleteRainbows always seem magical to me. The first one is quite spectacular.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to find the end of the rainbow. Didn't we all? 🌈
DeleteI can't remember the last time I saw a rainbow. I'm not sure if that is because they are so rare or because I just don't happen to be outside looking at the sky when they occur. I agree with Stephanie - they always seem magical.
ReplyDeleteWe can rely on seeing sunrise and sunset, but rainbows are less predictable, in UK anyway.
DeleteNice shots and you can practically feel the rain.
ReplyDeleteIt rained quite hard, but not for long enough!
DeleteNature's art!
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteWe saw only 1 little rainbow in Illinois in the 35 years we lived there. Here in Hawaii, we see rainbows a LOT. However, we're having a little drought right now which is not good. Therefore... sigh... no rainbows. But winter rainy season is coming so I'm expecting to see more. I'm so glad you got to enjoy one now.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to be able to see rainbows so frequently, though unfortunate that you are lacking rain at present.
DeleteBeautiful rainbows, thank you.💖
ReplyDeleteI wish I could order them . . .
DeleteStunning skies!
ReplyDeleteThey were astonishing.
DeleteThe rainbows are beautiful, as is the sight of rain. Yorkshire photos have been showing small rivers and becks flowing down the hill sides with great gusto as the rain begins to fill our largely empty reservoirs.
ReplyDeleteI hope the rain will now fall in sensible measures and refill the reservoirs. It's worrying to see dry stream beds and depleted ponds.
DeleteSkies have been dramatic with the mixed weather we have had, your photo's are stunning.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been so changeable so rapidly recently.
DeleteThose top photos look as though the sky is on fire.
ReplyDeleteIt was extraordinary, and changed so quickly.
DeleteI love dramatic skies. The contrasts between the darkened foliage and the splash of colour make a perfect composition. Number 1 and 2 are stunning.
ReplyDeletePure chance that we happened to look out just then . . .
DeleteI always feel a sense of magical wonder when I see a rainbow. One of my best memories is being a kid, driving with my family along the A5 past Llangollen and seeing a triple rainbow over the hills. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI get excited when I see a double rainbow, but I've never seen a triple. Wonderful!
DeleteThere's nothing quite so magical as a rainbow.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteWhat a glorious sight these rainbows are. I don't usually see them here only because there's so many trees in the way. And also this time of year we've had no rain now for about 6 weeks. I'm glad you're getting some after the dry spell.
ReplyDeleteYou've certainly had a dry spell. I hope it breaks soon for you.
DeleteThe first sequence is pretty super.
ReplyDeleteQuite special.
DeleteI've always thought there is something magical about rainbows :)
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are fabulous, the colours amazing.
Wishing you a happy day ahead with less wind!
Goodness the trees were bending yesterday!
All the best Jan
It's not so windy now, but still gusting periodically.
DeleteBeautiful photos, very atmospheric
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Thank you. 😊
DeleteI love to see a rainbow. Brings hope with it.
ReplyDeleteI love the first set of photos, with the dramatic sky behind the equally-dramatic rainbow.
ReplyDeleteNature can be very dramatic.
Delete. . the hope that the rain will cease. 😂
ReplyDeleteThat rainbow with the colourful clouds really is spectacular! I get to see rainbows relatively often, but never quite like that one, and more often than not they look even less remarkable in the photo.
ReplyDeleteIt was a chance not to be ignored.
Deletelast week, Beau and I walked under the middle of a rainbow like your 4th photo down. I love the first two and have never seen any like them, not even photos. awesome shots and wish I had seen that one with my own eyes
ReplyDeleteWe've certainly never seen the like before.
ReplyDeleteWow fantastic photos. Aren't rainbows wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThey are one of Nature's marvels.
DeleteHow nice that you were able to see the rainbows and how nice for us that you shared your lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThose first two photos are very dramatic! I happened to spot a rainbow while I was sitting at my desk the other day, but by the time I got my camera it had faded ... what a shame! xxx
ReplyDeleteThat is so often the case, isn't it?
Deletelovely
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteOur rainbow skies are normally like your wishing washing photos. The first several are absolutely outstanding and I give them six stars out of five.
ReplyDelete6/5 - wonderful. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your rainbow, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure.
